Dear Title I Principal,

Title I schools with a free & reduced lunch population of more than 40% are eligible to move from targeted assistance to a school wide Title I model. In addition to the F&R requirement, schools must also commit to planning and revising the School Improvement Plan to address 10 required components:
  1. Comprehensive Needs Assessment
  2. Schoolwide reform strategies
  3. Instruction by highly qualified teachers (including teacher assistants)
  4. High-quality and ongoing professional development
  5. Strategies to attract highly qualified teachers to high-need schools
  6. Measures to include teachers in decisions regarding the use of academic assessments:
  7. Strategies to increase parental involvement
  8. Plans for assisting preschool students in the successful transition from early childhood programs to local elementary schoolwide programs
  9. Activities to ensure that students who experience difficulty attaining proficiency receive effective and timely additional assistance
  10. Coordination and integration of Federal, State, and local services and programs

The Title I Team will provide support and guidance for the transition. We are envisioning a process that will involve three cohorts of schools, phasing in over three years. We are prepared to support up to 10 schools in each cohort

Our time line is:
Group --------------- Transition ----------------- Begin as School wide
Cohort I ---------------2010-2011 ------------------- 2011-2012
Cohort II --------------2011-2012 ------------------- 2012-2013
Cohort III -------------2012-2013 ------------------- 2013-2014

The Title I team has some preliminary ideas about the distribution of schools across these cohorts, but we would like to know your thoughts on the best fit for your school.

Please let us know your thoughts for moving your school to a Title I School Wide Model using this link:

One requirement for going to a school wide model is that teacher’s assistants must be highly qualified. Wake Tech. has a Career Readiness Certificate program that can be slightly modified to align with the Title I requirements. The program is web based, and most of it can be completed from home or school. This is a very affordable opportunity. The maximum total cost is $220. Tuition and fees may be waived (free) for individuals who meet certain requirements.
You will find information about becoming a highly qualified teacher assistant on the Teacher Assistant link on the left side of this page

Thanks for your time!
